Australia defeated India by 21 runs in the third and final match of the three-match series in MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Wednesday, 22 March, to win the series 2-1. Australian lag spinar Adam Zampa took four wickets It was a fantastic job from the Australians as they bowled out India for 248 while defending 270 under sweltering and humid weather conditions at the MA Chidambaram Stadium 2-1.
Australia’s first innings
Australia captain Steve Smith won the toss and decided to bat first. The opening pair of Travis Head and Mitchell Marsh got off to a strong start. Head was dismissed by Hardik Pandya for 33. The pair scored 61 runs in the powerplay. Hardik Pandya did not even allow Steve Smith to open the account and was dismissed for zero.
Soon after, dangerous batsman, Marsh was dismissed for 47. After losing three wickets for just 17 runs, Hardik Pandya put the Australian team on the back foot and brought India back into the match.
After this, David Warner was dismissed for 23 runs for the fourth wicket and Marsh Labushen scored 28 runs for the fifth wicket. Marcus Stoinis and Alex Carey added 58 runs for the sixth wicket, but Akshar Patel had Marcus Stoinis caught by Gill at the score of 25 runs.
After this, Kuldeep bowled Alex Carey with a brilliant ball. Carey scored 38 runs. Akshar Patel got the eighth success in the form of Shaun Abbott, who scored 26 runs.
The ninth success was given by Mohammad Siraj, who dismissed Aston Agar for 17 runs, Mohammad Siraj ended the Australian innings by dismissing Mitchell Starc on the last ball of the 49th over. Australian innings ended with 269 runs.
For India, Hardik and Kuldeep took three wickets each, while Akshar Patel and Siraj got two wickets each.
India’s first innings
Indian team’s opener batsmen Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill made a great start. Both of them together shared a half-century partnership for the first wicket. Both of them had achieved their rhythm and Team India was expecting that both of them would play long innings but India got the first blow in the form of Rohit Sharma and 65 runs. India’s first wicket has fallen on the score.
In the 10th over, Rohit was caught straight in the hands of Mitchell Starc while trying to pull Abbott’s first ball. Rohit Sharma scored 30 runs.
India’s second wicket fell in the form of Shubman Gill at the score of 77 runs. Gill scored 37 runs in 49 balls. Adam Zampa got him out lbw. Gill hit four fours and a six in his innings.
The third wicket fell in the form of KL Rahul. On the fifth ball of the 28th over, Rahul wanted to play a big shot on Zampa but he was caught by Shaun Abbott at the boundary.
Akshar Patel was run out after scoring two runs, after which Virat Kohli scored a half-century to bring India’s score to 150.
On the first ball of the 36th over, Kohli caught Warner while trying to play a big shot off, Ashton Agar.
Suryakumar Yadav has once again gotten out without opening an account. Egger bowled him on the second ball of the 36th over. This is the third consecutive time in this series that Suryakumar has been dismissed for three consecutive times without opening the account.
Hardik Pandya stayed at the crease for a long time. He had completed Team India’s 200 runs by hitting a four on the second ball of the 40th over, but in the 44th over, in an attempt to hit a big shot, the ball hit the outer edge of his bat and bounced in the air and Steve Smith takes the catch.
Gempa gave Australia the eighth success by getting Ravindra Jadeja, who was playing with care, caught by Steinis.
As the ninth wicket, Mohammed Shami had raised hopes by hitting a six and a four, but as soon as he was out, the public started evacuating the stadium.
Kuldeep Yadav has dismissed on the very first ball of the 49th over and with this the Indian innings came to an end, Australia defeated India by 21 runs in the third and final match. With this, Australia won the three-match ODI series 2-1.

Eagle attack on the field
The match came to an abrupt halt on the fourth ball of the 42nd over as Cheel hit the ground, troubling the fielders and forcing the match to be stopped. Cheel came to pick up a bug lying on the ground, which led to the interruption of the match. However, after some time the match started again.

Team India was bundled out for 248 runs in front of the target of 270 runs set by Australia. India won the first ODI in Mumbai by five wickets. After that Australia won the second ODI by 10 wickets in Visakhapatnam and today Australia has won the series 2-1 by defeating India in the third ODI.
With this win, Australia has become the No.1 team in ODIs.
